In the above video, the first round was K-1 rules and the second round was MMA rules. Shinya Aoki is a superb grappler but a terrible striker. Thus, he did everything he could to stall the first round to get to his realm of comfortability in the second. Notice all of the takedowns he was shooting. It's like he was practicing closing the distance for round 2. But when round 2 started, he did not respect the knee...
I like grappling more than I like striking. I realize that in a real life situation, being able to defend yourself while standing is important.
Shinya, who is a pro fighter, should also recognize that this weakness he has must be remedied. I thought his fight with Gilbert Melendez would have taught him a lesson.
I am still an Aoki fan regardless.
